Brides Brides Brides

Most of the time during makeup consultation with my brides, we do face charting so that
the theme, the gown, the mood, the set up, the facial shape, the hair type would all be in harmony on the big day.
Trial Makeup, is an overly-used word in wedding scene that has not been taken seriously by some (both ends)

I hear out and agree to other professional makeup artist leaders, who does not do on the spot makeup in a wedding fair and why it should cost a dime as well.

Trial Makeup, is where supposedly you run a SERIES of test makeup, products, looks in a bride to be.
It's where you the "professional" makeup artist should be doing your face study.
Its where you record skin labels, recommendations for your Bride-to-Be!

Your makeup artist will not just go ahead and paint your face and in as quick as 15 minutes (though yes any HMUA can do it) your bridal makeup look is done.
That's not supposedly it is done.
And you makeup artist, that's not the way you should be marketing or selling yourself.

So as a client, what should you expect and or do in the Trial or Preview Makeup

1. Expect and give at least an hour and a half bonding time with your chosen makeup artist.
Get the feel and be-friend your makeup artist too, the same goes with them, they are trying to get to know you better, remember your makeup artist is your bestfriend on your big day. (Read Here)
2. Do not bring your "barangay", a bestfriend or best is your maid of honor to get an opinion on what best would look on you. (I believe your maid of honor is your best friend, of almost same age as you, same time knows the ins and outs of beauty)
Bringing in a barangay wont help set the mood, wont let you connect with your artist, you hired a professional makeup artist not someone who works in a parlor just around the block. (Hiring a Makeup Artist: Read Here)

3. You may tag-a-long hubby to be, just make sure he has his PSP or Ipad to keep him sane, bring lots of popcorn for him too :-)

4. Be prepared to bring a picture of an inspiration of the hair you might like and at the same time bridal looks. So please do your part in researching too. Don't worry that does not make you a bridezilla, that makes you A Girl who knows what she wants :-)

5. Your makeup artist will recommend some from her makeup files of pegs, previous client with the same skin type, facial shape, body type as you complementing your look. Listen for Hints and Tips too. I bet every week they are working in a wedding scene, its like you get married once, they got married a hundred times already, so they know. :-)

6. Different brands of makeup items from the prepping stage, priming stage, to foundation will be patched test on you, you give your feedback too at the the end of the day. Did you get some irritation or not?

7. Different eye look will be done on both eyes. Until all of you, (you, your maid of honor, mr groom to be, and your makeup artist) will come into decision, what goes for the church and what goes for the party after! :-)

8. Same goes with hair styling.

9. Bring a copy either an inspiration, your fashion designers sketch or a photo of your gown including all the accents, appliques etc.

10. Do a research about your artist, prepare sets of questionnaires if you want, this is your best time where you get to sit know them and say to your self that you have made the right choice in getting them. Get to know them outside the makeup work, if who they are, how awesome they can be on the other side of their world :-) They're human too. You know! :-) (Questions about your HMUA: Read Here)

So better schedule a trial makeup with your artist. Some brides-to-be that are on the budget schedule them during their engagement session or if they have a function for that day. Just make sure not to hurry up your artist, schedule it at least 2-3 hours before if you want. Again this is for your wedding preview, so do not rush them and tell them to do a smoky eye on you, that's not your wedding preview makeup, that's asking your artist to do totally different task, you are totally confusing yourself. Booking your makeup artist to do your trial makeup in the middle of a garden is not wedding consultation, that's makeup for a photo shoot, again do not intentionally confuse yourself :-)

So a super quick all time favorite question is:
What makeup look is ok?
Answer: Classic Bridal makeup will make your wedding photos timeless

You don't want makeup to overshadow the whole look in your wedding photos, right?

What can I (B2B) do on my end?

You should begin prepping your skin at least a month before your portrait (Engagement Photo Session) and/or Wedding Day.
Stay consistent with your cleansing and moisturizing routines so your skin is not stressed, but smooth and flawless for your wedding photos.

Realizing that choosing your makeup color palette is as important as choosing your dress. Don't try a new look the day of the wedding. Thus, Preview - Consultation Makeup with your Artist is a MUST. And stick to your Face Chart!

Stay away from trends, and go for a natural look that enhances your beauty. Ask yourself, if you were to look back on your portrait 10 years later would you still think your makeup looks pretty. That's a good rule of thumb to follow to decide if the the makeup and hair looks you're choosing will stand the test of time.

(So whoever that makeup artist is, who painted blue eyeshadows, telling you its bridal makeup, must have adored Kung-Fu Panda Movie to the highest level!)
Know your worth: Read here

Get your hair done before your makeup to avoid coating your makeup with stray hairspray. Get plenty of rest and drink plenty of water so your eyes look bright and your skin looks beautiful in your photos. (Remember natural glow of a healthy skin is way better than highlighters, concealers and foundations)
