Make the Most of your Hair

Say, you've been wearing your hair long for quite sometime and not really sure how to make the most of it when it comes to caring and styling

My bride: Crislyn Mae in her sweet one-of-a-kind up-do

CARING for your hair day and night is a must just as you do with your skin.

Here are a few good points to remember:

1. USE THE RIGHT BRUSH
There is a myth that brushing your hair each night helps it to grow more and grow stronger, but that's simply not true. You should carefully untangle your hair, brushing just enough to get out the knots, since brushing could split hair and damage it. (Especially if your brush has a very hard bristle)

2. CAUTION WHEN WET
Your hair has more of a chance of breakage when it's wet. Be careful when combing it; always use a conditioner or a mask to help you and use a wide-toothed comb. Be very gentle and don't rub your hair with a towel.

3. WASH ONLY AS NEEDED
You don't need to wash your hair every day, as long as you don't have very oily hair or get it dirty at work every day. Two or three washes a week is more than enough. You can wet your hair down daily in the shower if you prefer and use conditioner, but save your shampoo for every once in a while.

4. MASSAGE YOUR SCALP
You wash your hair, take the opportunity to massage your scalp, which will help the product work better. You will also activate your blood circulation, which will help your hair grow in stronger.

5. BE BOLD
To make the most of your hair, the best thing is to be bold with new styles and up-dos and wear a flattering cut.
Here are some tricks:

a.) Add a touch of shine
If you aren't ready to change your color, give yourself a color wash with a product the same color as you already have. This will activate your hair's shine and it will look healthier.

b.) Cut bangs
If you are afraid to try a radical change, try cutting some long, straight bangs

c.) Pull it up
Get out of your rut! Sometimes we don't step out of our shell to try styles such as a low chignon, although this is a very flattering and trendy style right now.

d.) Move your part
If you always part your hair in the middle or to one side, change it up and you'll look different in a nice way.

Professional Makeup Artistry: A Career

Would you like to know the keys to start your own career as a professional Makeup Artist?

if YES,
Learn the proper and educated way of makeup artistry.

STYLING: Dark and Stormy

RAINY SEASON - This is one of the biggest challenges when it comes to looking good,
and not to forget being lazy enough to haul the closet.
With some advance planning in terms of prepping your wardrobe,
however, accomplishing this feat is completely possible.
I say grab some of the pieces that you usually own and present when its raining,
adding a fresh element or two can still give you the power of transforming the worst weather days into the best fashion ones.

Fall is all about layers and layers and layers and layers...

TOP : JACKET
Quilted Moto Jacket in Black
The piece is going to transform your wet weather look and create an aesthetic you can work with even on the most blustery of days
Try a topper with a cut that is close-to-the-body thermal type and abundance of silver zippers, for a rock vibe even for a tough stormy days.
A full-zip front helps keep body heat in as it keeps wind and rain away from your neck and chest.
Four zip pockets also provide more than enough space for you to safely carry your wallet, cell phone and iPod player so you won’t have to worry about water damage.

BOTTOM : JEANS
Boot-cut or relaxed-fit jeans and pants should be avoided at all costs on rainy days as the bottom hemline will drag on the ground, getting wet and collecting muck -- not a look that’s in. Opt for slim-fit jeans with tapered ankles that don’t touch the pavement, Of course, you’ll get heaps of wear out of these jeans year-round too, as they’re a classic that pairs well with anything from vintage rock T-shirts to sharp blazers

INNER:V-neck Shirt
Again, fall is all about layers, layers and more more layers, alright.
This concept is intended to make it easier for you to adapt to the season’s constantly changing weather conditions, although it can be confusing to determine how to go about dressing this way. The first step is to begin with a base layer, like a long-sleeve thermal V-neck, which should become the piece you put on as soon as you roll out of bed in the morning. After that, depending on the temperature, you’ll want to add one or two more pieces -- no more. This method works well, so stick with it whether you’re going for a more downtown feel or you’re aiming for something a little dressier

 ACCESSORIES : LEATHER and METAL

To carry an urban theme through your look, your accessories should incorporate leather and metal hardware. Crafted from smooth black leather and finished with a pewter buckle, its a great choice for giving an edge to everyday ensembles

Makeup Artistry - Is it right for me?

As I have written in my previous entry, here, "What's your worth" article  is for the consumer while this article is, for us, the producer.

Is Makeup Artistry right for me?

It seems like a very simple question, but for anyone seriously considering a life as a makeup artist, it is always worth the extra chain of thought before settling down with a decision and going full throttle ahead. With all the hype around artists and fashion stylist with shows like Top Model, Project Runway, Fashion Week and Rachel Zoe the secret is definitely out - "a life in the fashion and beauty industry can absolutely be very glamorous."

But if you look closely, there is also a lot of hard work, human relations being made and a creative outlet that never ends. In case you were wondering, this is a good thing! If we all worked in the field just for the champagne and canapés, we would be bored out of our minds within a year. But if your heart is truly in it, and you dream is to create, inspire and last but certainly not least; run a great business,
Makeup artistry could definitely be the career for you.

There are a couple of questions you should ask yourself and analyze the answer to see if this field is truly your passion - which then means that you would be successful at it.

    • Do I want to work 9-5, Monday to Friday without a chance of change in my work structure? – If your answer is NO, then you’re off to a great start as the work of a Makeup artist is so varied that we rarely know their structure until the months before. However, we are able to take control and make decisions regarding which hours to work, but most makeup artists thrive on the choice to work Saturdays and take Tuesday and Wednesday off instead.

    • Am I living to work or working to live? – as a makeup artist the answer should be living to work - because the photo shoots, films, teaching or consulting we do hardly feels like work! This is what we love to do and what makes us happy, so the hours or the location are minor details that more often than not make our lives magnificently flexible.
  • Do I want to become a makeup artist to make myself look hot? - as a makeup artist, we should of course always look great as we represent our own products basically, however, the focus should always be on the client, model or celebrity. If we are more into our own looks than theirs, it means that we don´t really care. There is a big misunderstanding when it comes to makeup and it´s artist, regarding it being purely superficial. But the look on a clients face, when they look into the mirror after our work is done, and they feel a sense of pride and joy about their looks, and finally see the beauty on the outside that we saw on the inside- that is truly the most un-superficial moment where one person is helping another.

  • Does makeup artistry make me feel calm, excited and happy all at once?- This is probably the most important question, as what we choose to spend most of our time doing, should be something that creates all those emotions at ones. The great thing about recognizing those emotions while working is that it is the number one reassurance that you will be successful! Passion leads to talent, and talent leads to success and when we are 100% passionate about the work we do, we will always succeed and be the best.

  • Do I want to be my own boss, freelance and run a successful business? - If your answer is not YES, the career might not be the best suited for you. As mentioned before, when we have so much passion which leads into talent for a craft, it is inevitable that we will be successful. So if these things are something you do not want in your life, it would be better to get out now before the jobs and money comes pouring in!

My new Toy

I submitted a letter of intent, I got an answer, now Im in for Photography Class.

Let's see how will I score a student then.

I recently attended a quick but concise workshop from Canon, you may read it here, from Basic Photography, to Videography module then Advance Photography. It was like a testing the water phase for me if I'm gonna like it. I'm not a visual or listening type of student, I know psychologist has a term for that. I am more of a “I understand things If you get me involved”, that’s the reason why I'm a makeup artist. I studied them because its applied learning, its not just pure lecture (visual or audio) but Its hands on.

I fairly score my assessment last Sunday at the workshop, so I'm hoping I’d understand more what those term and points are if I'd have my own SLR to toy around, toggle and click away to see the difference, - results of my lessons in class.

 My new baby!
Let's see how we fair in our love story! :-)

What's your Worth?

When choosing any kind of stylist, whether hair, makeup or fashion, look first if that person has personal style! - Cecile van Straten

I would like to quote the line above.

Would you entrust your personal styling of your hair to someone who doesn't even know how to comb or give his/or her hair the proper attention. An excuse for a day that she has no time to neat up his/her own look is fine but if everyday and all the pictures you see in that person looks like from the movie Sadako, then think about it.

Would you entrust your beauty makeover to an artist who picks  up the makeup brush, applies color blue, brown or black to you without the 411 ifs its approved by the blood flow of your skin or to someone who doesn't even know how to be presentably impressive and would love to prettify herself once in a while. Or for male makeup artist who are neat and clean and well groomed. I'm not exactly pointing out that there are some makeup artist nowadays who were celebrities before or where born from good genetic lineage, lucky and easy for them to sell the craft then. I know there are some who are not that all blessed with it, but hey you are a makeup artist per se, you are the master of covering that flaws, the dark undereye circles, that pimple marks, perfect up that unbalance lip or brighten up that gloomy face of yours.

Again an excuse for a day that you have no time to glamourize yourself is acceptable but if every photo browsed on your file you exactly look like dooms day... (nodding head)

Would you entrust your image profiling to someone who is of total clueless on what a mirror is and does not see his/her reflection on it that it spells the word "major fail" "horrible" or worst "yucky dirty" (in laymans term "dugyot") and please being "dugyot" was never in fashion so there is no way that excuse is passable to the senate committee of power image.

Every marketing campaign of any entity shouts for perfection, in every detail, every angle.

Every bride wants to be the most beautiful girl in her moment. Now would you trust your once in a lifetime "Ever - After" dream to some one like stated above.

Heard it not just a couple of times but more than 15 times already. After 6 months or a year would pass or 10years after, the regret of "if only" word is uttered. when you didnt get the best of what you are supposed to be for the reason that either you were blinded, misinformed or clouded of an idea or person.

Know your worth don't settle for anything less!

Have a chuckling day ahead!
